Safe Browse Add to Chrome

Updated 5 November 2026

Privacy Policy

What Safe Browse processes, what it stores, and what you control.

What we process

Safe Browse checks page text, image labels and links, website addresses, and supported searches to apply your filters. These checks happen inside your browser.

The extension does not send page content, searches, or browsing history to a filtering server. It does not collect personal information for advertising or sell your browsing data.

What we store

Safe Browse saves preferences such as enabled filters, profiles, custom words, trusted sites, and blocked sites in Chrome storage.

Some preferences use Chrome’s synced storage. If Chrome Sync is enabled, Chrome may sync these settings through your Google account. Filtering itself still happens in your browser.

Filtering counts, site statistics, pause status, and recent activity are stored locally. Recent activity can include blocked addresses and filtered searches so you can review what the extension has done.

Browser permissions

Safe Browse needs access to websites to filter their content. Its browser permissions support these functions:

Website access
Checks and filters content on the pages you visit.
Storage
Saves your filters, preferences, and statistics.
Tabs
Updates open tabs and opens extension pages.
Web navigation
Checks website addresses and supported searches as you navigate.
Context menus
Provides Safe Browse actions in Chrome’s right-click menu.
Alarms
Checks timed pauses and maintains filtering counts.

Your controls

You can turn filters on or off, pause protection, add custom words, and allow sites you trust. These choices change how Safe Browse filters pages.

If password protection is enabled, unlocking is required to access protected controls. Safe Browse stores a password hash locally, not the password itself.

Exports and removal

When you export extension data, Safe Browse creates a JSON file for you to download. It does not upload the export to a server.

Use the available extension controls to clear activity or reset preferences. Removing the extension removes its local extension storage. Any files you previously exported remain wherever you saved them.

Safe Browse stores your review-prompt choice locally so it can stop asking. Choosing to write a review opens the Chrome Web Store; the extension cannot tell whether you submitted a review.

When an uninstall feedback form is enabled, Chrome opens it after removal. Completing it is optional. The extension does not attach browsing activity or identifiers to the form link. Responses you choose to submit are handled by the form provider under its privacy policy.

Policy changes

Updates to this policy will be published on this page. The date above shows when it was last revised.
